Privacy and the Release of Information

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 requires that the Financial Services Office have a studentís written consent on file before any information is released to a studentís spouse, significant other, or parents. If a parent calls and RMU has the parentís latest tax return indicating that the student was claimed as an exemption on the tax return, the financial aid advisor will release information to the parent. If a parental tax return is not in the studentís file, the studentís written authorization is required. If a student foresees the need for the Financial Services Office at Robert Morris University to share information from the studentís financial aid file with any individual or agency, the student must see their Financial Services advisor and give written consent.
