My name is Greg Taylor and I am a culinary arts student at the RMC Chicago downtown campus. I didn’t have an idea of what I was going to go to college for until my junior year of High School while living in Rockford. I was always a fan of cooking but never knew that I would one day become a professional chef in Chicago. In my personal experience life has many ups and downs and what I know for sure is that coming to Robert Morris College is definitely one of the ups that life has taken me through. I soon plan to start my Bachelors degree program in January of 2008 and I believe that coming back for my BA will put me way above the rest of the competition because of my drive to better myself educationally. A person once told me that there are ordinary people and there are extraordinary people and the only thing that separates the two are the extra things the extraordinary people do. So I try every day just to be EXTRAORDINARY!

So this is what happed. I just got back to the school after a long weekend from moving into my new place and I decided to check my emails. I notice that there is a name that I didn’t think I would ever see again. It was a high school sweetheart of mine who was also a Brazilian foreign exchange student who moved back to Rio after senior year. She gave me her contact info and I told her that when I was old enough and could find some time I was going to come and visit her, we lost contact and I emailed once but never got a response. As most of you know, Brazil’s soccer team is in town playing and there’s a lot of Brazil stuff all over so obviously I’ve been thinking about her non stop since the team got here. It’s funny because I got the email from her saying that she still remembers me a lot emphasis on "a lot" and that she’s in college now as well and she hopes to hear from me soon. So folks this could only be fate right? Well I think I’m on my way to Brazil Greg

Early Bid Special

Just a simple thought for any person enrolled in any college in the world. I found out that if you get to your classes early then you get the best seat in the house. I’m not trying to make you feel like some kind of looser who sits in the front of the class all the time and answers all of the teacher’s questions, but I have a question for you. Doesn’t that looser who sits in the front of the class get straight A's all the time? I don’t know about you but that sounds like an early bird special to me, get to class early get the best seat, answer all the questions correctly and get all straight A's. What a deal huh? Just a thought :) Greg

GT's Top 10
The big day is alomst here. your first day of college, i remeber my first day and everything that i wish i knew so i wouldnt be so stressed. well i'm going to do better than that, i'm going to give you a list of things you should know not only the first day but the first year. It's GT's Top Ten list of things that will make you succcessful your first year of college. 1. Make friends! Not only with class mates but also with your teachers. The teachers are there for you and they love it when you ask questions and try to learn what they are teaching it means a lot to them it will mean even more when you can’t make it to a class because of previous engagements and you need to make up some work. 2. Go to class! Going to all of your classes will not only gain the trust of your teacher but it will also gain the trust of your peers because they will pick you for the best projects because you’re always on time. 3. Get help! If you have problems with your homework and you’re not that comfortable with asking for help in the class then got to the student center and get free tutoring. I know at RMC we have free tutoring in the Lapota center. 4. Study! Putting that extra time in studying will go a long way when that final comes up. 5. Don’t get stressed! Just like number five week five can be just as hard. I’m sure this is a lot to read and take in but once you get passed number five or week five it gets a lot better. So don’t get stressed the best is yet to come, wow, I should take my own advice lol. 6. Free yourself! Don’t get so caught up in overwhelming yourself with work and extra credit that you forget to really experience college. Why not take some time out of your day like an hour or two and walk around downtown Chicago or go up to the student center and play some games or surf the web. Trust me your body will appreciate it. 7. Boys will be boys and girls will be girls! never let your personal relationships that you may have get in the way of your big picture and the real reason why your here in college, and that’s to better your chances of getting a high paying job once your done with school. So try not to get into any really serious relationships while in school unless it’s with a culinary student because we can cook for you on the weekend’s lol 8. Help each other out! Helping your teacher or other class mates with different school events will open your eyes and broaden your horizons because you’re experiencing things you normally wouldn’t in your home town. 9. Keep bridges unburned! What does that mean you ask? well it means I know you couldn’t wait to move out of your parent or guardians home and get away from your home town but don’t cut them off completely. You may need that step-mom or dad to bail you out of a financial situation latter on down the road. 10. Have FUN! take it all in, have the time of your life that’s what college is all about, making friends, experiencing new things, bringing a side of yourself out that you didn’t think you had in you (a positive side lol) and just have fun. College is the time of your life that you will never forget, I know someone has told you that High School is that time but I couldn’t tell you what color shirt o wore to my senior prom. Now you have GT's Top 10 list of things that will make you successful your first year in college. Enjoy it; you'll never get these days back. Until next time GT
