I’m a Chicana (Mexican American). Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I’m the fourth child of five siblings….can you believe my little sister was born the day of my 6th birthday (and took my spotlight as the baby of the family)!! Anywho, through most of my younger years I attended three different Elementary Schools: Hammond, Pilsen and I graduated from Nightingale Elementary and then went on to Hubbard High School. After graduation I continued my studies at MacCormac College where I received my Associate’s in Business Office Technology in 2002. After so much school I would have never imagined I would be working within a school. I am currently working at a Chicago Public High School and have been there since I was granted an internship in 2001. I love my job and the people I work with. In 2005 I decided it was time to further my education and register to complete my Bachelor’s, I began at DePaul and transferred to RMC because of their great flex program, which has been treating me very well. My anticipated graduation date is early 2008. A little more about myself, I like to make new friends; I love new experiences; and I plan to join the Peace Corps to go off to different parts of the world to help in any way I can (I like to think of myself as a humanitarian). To this end, I’d like to share a little words of wisdom:
In life there is no obstacle neither too difficult nor too easy, you have put forth the best of your abilities and have a mindset of never giving up on yourself, regardless of what others may say, and never settle for failure. To be successful in any endeavor, its important that besides anyone else the #1 person who should have your back 100% is yourself, first and foremost. Believe and you will achieve!!! Back to Work
More...
So September is the beginning of a new school year, which for me means going back to work. So I'm here and I'm getting prepared for the school year and working on setting up the computer lab that I manage and its more work than people might think. The first few days were a little rough because they were calling me to pass out student programs for the first week, when I could have been getting my computer lab ready for use. Plus, I had to get ready to conduct a workshop to introduce teachers to our lab policies and procedures as well as any new software applications we are using and take them through each one. And now that I am done getting organized and almost finished setting up, I feel better and can't wait to see what this year has in store for me. Hopefully good things will come. Now I can barely believe it is the 9th week of the Summer II quarter!!! OMG, boy does time fly by. This quarter has been going so great and I have surprised myself, granted that I am taking an Accounting course and a Statistics class, but I have been doing great and am looking forward to keeping my grades up. I just wonder now what the Fall quarter courses will bring, I'm hoping it will go as smooth as this quarter. My little sister just got her GED and I'm so excited because even though she did not finish high school, she's on track and now she's getting ready to start her courses for Medical Office Technology at West Side Technical Institute. I'm so proud of her!!! Given, she just gave birth to my niece in March and just turned 19 in Aug. So I'm excited for her and am glad that she now has her head on straight. Me and my older sister have been doing what we can so that she starts her first quarter off right, and what better way than to take her shopping for new clothes and supplies!!! What girl doesn't like to go SHOPPING??!!! It was great, and we had fun, just the sisters (plus the baby, who also got new clothes). So my weekend consisted mostly of shopping, shopping and shopping. Oh yeah! Next on Real Life...
End of Fall Quarter

Wow. Time sure flies! So I surprised myself this quarter due to the fact that this Humanities class was surely to be a disaster but I pulled through and managed to do very well. I thought that I was going to leave that class with not a single thing learned, but reflecting on all the work and thinking that we had to do, it made me see literature in a new light and realize the many ways one can interpret different kinds of literature. Thanks Dr. Sgarlata! Accounting 300 was a blast and the instructor taught in a way that was sure to help me retain the information. Thanks Mr. Knutsen! English 325 was also a great class. We learned how to compose proposals and we worked on a project in which our purpose was to create letters and send them out to different companies, asking for donations to help a not-for-profit organization based in Chicago. It was a rewarding experience. Thanks Ms. Meador! Well, I enjoyed this quarter and now I'm moving up to the 400 level courses! Ay Ay Ay! I have two quarters left!!! Oh yeah!!! Lets just see how smoothly these courses move along. Hope you're all having a wonderful experience here at Robert Morris College. Adios! |
FINALS!!!!
OMG...so its finally over. The Summer II quarter is overwith and although I was a little disappointed at myself for how I think I did on my statistics exam, I think I'll still pass with a good grade. And I'm pretty sure I did good in my Accounting class. So here we go again. Fall quarter is next week and I can't wait until these next ten weeks fly by. One of my friends has already completed her program, and I just can't wait until its my turn when I'll have my Bachelor's. I just hope I'll finish on time, by February I should graduate. Seems like it is just around the corner!!! I'm so excited. So what will I do after I graduate?? Hmm....that's a tough one. I like to think that I will take the time to focus and become more involved at work as well as have some down time for myself...which I am desperately in need of. But I also would like to see myself back in school, going for my Masters and even my Doctorate. I'm aiming for Journalism, Psychology (yeah...call me Dr. Nino), or Finance. But all that can change. Who knows. So this fall quarter I'm signed up for English 325, Accounting 300 and Humanities 310. 2 writing classes doesn't seem so bad, it just sucks that my previous Accounting teacher will be taking the quarter off and not teaching 300. Bummer! But I'm ready for the first day. So I'll close hear and hope for the best with this next quarter. Hasta Luego!! |
