Real-World Experience
More...
Im back! Its been a long week trying to teach Dog the Soulja Boy dance, but I think he may finally have it down. He said it was easier when he actually got up and danced with me rather than just watching me do the steps. Im the same in that aspect, I do better with "real-life" training. Anyone whose ever looked into colleges has heard the term hands-on experience, but what exactly does that mean? Well it means that you will be doing real-life things that will help you better understand what you are learning in class. You wont just read about it in your text book, you will actually do whatever it is you are learning. An example of hands-on training is clearly demonstrated in one of RMC's English classes. In this class student are required to use both their written and oral skills to raise awareness and funds for an actual foundation. Students are required to write memos and letters to ask businesses within the community for donations or to make any other contributions. The students host functions, hold silent auctions, sell candy bars and raffle tickets, and do many other things to raise money. They are to raise as much money as possible and in the end they present their success to their classmates. Students not only learn how to communicate effectively, but they learn how to use it in a real world situation. An added bonus is that they realize the importance of getting involved within the community. Talk about real-world experience! You can also find examples of this in our School of Nuring and Health Studies. Our students not only learn from their text books but they also learn by doing. Students are taught what to do in real-life situations in our Medical Assisting lab, Nursing lab, and Surgical Technology Operating Room. Our Study Abroad programs offer another great example of real-world experiences. Students not only study, but they live in another country. Our Hospitality Management students have the opportunity to travel to Italy and study cooking at the Apicius Culinary Institute of Florence for ten weeks. Our Computer students can study at the G18 Technical College in Hamburg, Germany for five weeks. Our Art students can study at the Florence University of Arts for six weeks. Students can also study in London, Madrid, or Austria. (robertmorris.edu/studyabroad). In fact, all the classes at RMC involve some sort of real-life training. It really makes that transisition into your career that much easier. If you are interested in finding out more about RMC you should check out our Open House page (robertmorris.edu/rsvp/openhouse) or schedule a visit online (robertmorris.edu/visit).
