Robert Morris University Honors Faculty and Business Person of the Year

At its annual luncheon, the RMU School of Business Administration recognized five individuals who have contributed greatly to the mission of Robert Morris University and particularly to the business program.
Larry Nieman, dean of the business school, acknowledged four accounting professors who have enabled RMU business students to earn valuable experience through accounting related projects. Jim Coughlin mentored students who worked on internships and projects in the RMU Innovation Center. Peg Berezewski, Dave Knutsen and Karen Novey supervised students in the VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) at the Chicago and Orland Park campuses. Through their efforts, RMU students became VITA certified and assisted over a hundred individuals with their tax returns.
Each year, the School of Business Administration recognizes an individual from outside the University who has provided opportunities for business students to learn and grow in their fields of study. Emily Klehm, executive director of the South Suburban Humane Society was honored as the 2011 Business Person of the Year.
Jennifer Kaminski, associate dean of the business school, explained how Emily’s organization provided a learning environment for many RMU students. The society presented its fund raising and marketing needs to students through an Innovation Center project. Ultimately, business students created a marketing plan and fund raising project: a gala held at the Orland Park campus that featured dogs and cats from the Humane Society.
RMU art students worked on the graphics for invitations and programs, culinary students planned and prepared the dinner, and all students shared in the work of running the event.
In accepting the award, Emily expressed her heartfelt appreciation, not only for the work done by RMU students, but for the opportunity to get to know the University, its mission and the preparation it gives to its students.
