The Robert Morris University School of Nursing and Health Studies will begin offering classes in a new track, Applied Health Sciences, in its Bachelor of Professional Studies program. Students with an associate degree in a health studies field can pursue a bachelor’s degree with in this track beginning with the winter term, starting December 1.
As a program within the School of Nursing and Health Studies, this track explores such health related issues as global health, early life cycle and adult diseases, and ethical and legal issues in the healthcare field. The required internship is based on the First Responder National Standards Curriculum and upon completion, students will be able to pursue the State of Illinois First Responders credential.
“The program is a natural progression for health studies students,” explained Mablene Krueger, RMU provost. “Combining these upper level courses in health studies with the established courses for the professional studies degree enables students to complete a well-rounded baccalaureate program that has a specialization in their selected field.” Students who complete a Bachelor of Professional Studies will be prepared for positions in management in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, residential facilities, doctors’ offices or other health related settings.
