Robert Morris Gallery to Feature Artwork of Dr. Margaret Taylor Burroughs
On November 17, the Robert Morris University State Street Gallery will hold an opening reception for an art exhibit entitled, “Dr. Margaret Taylor Burroughs: A Retrospective.” Dr. Burroughs, a writer, an artist and an educator, is also the founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History. Originally opened in her south side home in 1961, the DuSable is home to artwork celebrating the cultural heritage of African Americans.
Born in 1917, Dr. Burroughs graduated from Chicago Teacher’s College in 1937 and received a Master of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1948.
The Margaret Burroughs exhibit will feature artwork she created using diverse media and that has been exhibited internationally.
