Frequently Asked Questions

Why a name change?
As one of the largest universities in Illinois, the University's leadership determined that qualities unique to the institution were not effectively conveyed by the name "Robert Morris University." The name change more accurately reflects the University’s status to its many publics, including employers, high schools, other colleges, and its benefactors as a private institution possessing a national reputation for career-focused education.

Why RMU?
With a rich near 100-year history bearing the name Robert Morris, the University’s leadership determined to continue to honor Robert Morris, the financier of the American Revolution and signer of both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States.

Will the school colors or mascot change?
The burgundy and gold color tradition will endure, with slight enhancements.  The previous maroon will be replaced with a richer hue of burgundy and the previous yellow will become more of a traditional gold.  With a rich tradition in athletics and over 35 nationally ranked teams, Robert Morris University will continue to be regarded athletically as The Eagles, however, a mascot costume change has occurred.

Will the website address change?
The University’s domain name will continue to be robertmorris.edu.
