Employment Opportunities
Full-Time
When you meet all of the following criteria, we will strive to help you find a job:
1. Complete a minimum of a Professional Diploma or degree at RMU.
2. Meet the residency requirement if you transferred into RMU's Bachelor Degree or Masters Degree program.
3. RMU alumni who graduated one year ago or more must attend a professional development workshop or obtain approval from a Director.
You will not be eligible for full-time career service assistance while attending school during the day on a full-time basis because of academic commitments during normal working hours.
Part-Time
Career Services assists currently-enrolled students (as early as the first day of class!) and graduates of a Masters Degree, Bachelor Degree, Associate Degree, or Professional Diploma program at RMU with finding a convenient part-time job opportunity.

The companies looking for part-time employees range from major corporations such as R.R. Donnelly to small law firms.
Salary
The minimum salary is around $7.00/hour.

Advice
- If you are currently a full-time student, remember that your classes and grades are your primary responsibility. You should not sacrifice your academic record to take on extra hours at your part-time position.
- Employers expect the same level of professionalism in both part-time and full-time positions. Remember to present your best at an interview.

Federal Work Study (FWS) Program
The goal of the Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is to supply part-time employment to undergraduate and graduate students who need the income to help meet the cost of post-secondary education. In addition, the FWS Program offers students an opportunity to develop employment skills and establish professional work ethics.
As a work-study student, you are accepting the responsibility of performing tasks and assignments within various departments of the College or at various off-location, not-for-profit organizations.
On-Location
As an on-location work study, you have the opportunity to work within a department of the College. You will be responsible for performing tasks and assignments within that particular department.
Off-Location
Off-location work study positions are divided into three areas including America Reads Tutor, America Counts Tutor and Community Service Workers. A short description of each position is found below:
- America Reads Tutor
America Reads Tutor positions consist of community partners working to promote children's reading. As an America Reads Tutor you will take part in tutoring children and be involved in running educational activities and programs. - America Counts Tutor
America Counts Tutor positions consist of community partners working to promote math skills in children. As an America Counts Tutor you will take part in tutoring children and be involved in running educational activities and programs. - Community Service Worker
This area encompasses all other types of off-location work-study positions. These positions are often office/clerical support or assisting in the coordination of programs in community organizations.
Things to Know
- FWS students are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week while enrolled.
- FWS positions may be scheduled around your current school schedule.
- FWS payday is twice a month. Paychecks can be picked up in Career Services.
- FWS time sheets must be turned in to Career Services by the 15th and last working day of each month.
- The FWS Program is a great way to gain experience and develop professional work ethics.
- The FWS Program offers a convenient means to earn extra cash and go to school while working on or off-location.
- The FWS Program is offered at all RMU location.
Search CareerConnect!
Career Services posts internships, jobs, and career events in an online database to enhance the services offered to Robert Morris University students and alumni.
CareerConnect streamlines student registration, resume referrals, document management, job postings, interview scheduling, create resume books, and much more. As a result, students and alumni will have 24-7 access to search jobs; manage multiple resumes, cover letters and other employment-related documents; and view and RSVP for various career events and workshops.
At the present time, CareerConnect is available to currently-enrolled students and alumni of RMU who are actively working with a Career Services Advisor. CareerConnect will be available for employer access and use when the second phase of the database system is implemented.
