In the second game, Jessie Shay (junior; Atlanta, IL) went 4-for-4 with two doubles, while Fisher homered for Robert Morris.  Andrea Felix (sophomore; Williamsville, IL) had three hits, and Stacey Brown (freshman; Pleasant Plains, IL) picked up the win.

Offense erupts in Game 2!

Traveling to play Eureka College, the offense was absent in Game 1.  Lora Fisher (senior; Casey, IL) took the loss 1-0 with the Lady Eagles stranding seven base runners in the first four-innings.  Fisher struck out eleven Eureka batters.

The Robert Morris bats erupted in Game 2 for six first-inning runs that lead to a 9-5 victory.  Stacey Brown (freshman; Pleasant Plains, IL) was the winning pitcher for RMC.  Kristina Hoffart (freshman; Calgary, Alberta), Andrea Felix (sophomore; Williamsville, IL) and Tara Doran (junior; Fairbury, IL) paced the offense for the Lady Eagles.

Lady Eagles split with visiting Webster University!

Lora Fisher (senior; Casey, IL) pitched the Lady Eagles to 3-1 victory in Game 1.  Webster University mounted a late threat in the seventh with bases loaded, but Fisher struck out her final two batters to preserve the win.  Offensively, the Eagles did all their damage in the fourth inning.  Jenette Mix (junior; Effingham, IL) got things going with a walk, followed by a Fisher walk.  With two-outs and two-on, Kristina Hoffart (freshman; Calgary, Alberta) singled in Mix and Fisher.  Norissa Stetter (senior; Geneseo, IL) then doubled to drive in Hoffart.

Game 2 was well played with Stacey Brown (freshman; Pleasant Plains, IL) taking the moung for the Lady Eagles.  In the top of the fifth inning, Robert Morris committed two critical errors that would lead to a five-run inning for Webster.  Webster would go on to win the second game 7-1.

Springfield Lady Eagles sweep weekend games!

Robert Morris College Round Robin Tournament – Orland Park, IL

Game 1:           The Lady Eagles defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph’s 4-0.  Senior pitcher Lora Fisher (Casey, IL) tossed a 1-hitter while striking out 16 batters to tie her own school record.  Offensively for the Eagles, outfielder Jenette Mix (Effingham, IL) got things started in the third inning with a double.  That was followed by Jessie Shay (Atlanta, IL) single and a Fisher single to produce a two-run lead.  Beth Shackelford (Lamar, MO) and Kristina Hoffart (Calgary, Alberta) each hit doubles to produce two additional safety runs.

Game 2:           The Lady Eagles defeated Grace College 9-2.  Freshman pitcher Christina Atton (Palos Heights, IL) started the game for the Eagles to have Fisher come in for relief in the third inning.  Although the offense started slower this game, Atton got things going in the fifth with a single, followed by a Mix walk, a Fisher single, a Tara Doran (Fairbury, IL) single, Norissa Stetter (Geneseo, IL) single, with the big blow coming off a Hoffart 3-run double.

Game 3:           The Lady Eagles defeated Robert Morris-Chicago 2-1.  With Chicago leading 1-0 heading into the fourth inning, Stetter singled to give Springfield a base runner.  Atton came into pinch-run for Stetter and she would eventually score on an infield bunt by Adrea Felix (Williamsville, IL).  Springfield would score the eventual game-winner in the sixth inning.  Hoffart reached first base on an error then stole second base to get into scoring position.  Shackelford drove her across the plate with her game-winning single.  Freshman pitcher Stacey Brown (Pleasant Plains, IL) recorded the victory pitching well allowing seven hits over her seven innings of work.

Lady Eagles defeat Concordia in weather make-up games!

Robert Morris-Springfield defeated Concordia 17-2 and 8-4 in double-header.  Winning pitchers on the day were Lora Fisher and Jessie Shay respectively.

In game 1, Becky Von De Bur (Springfield, IL) recorded 5 RBI’s while hitting a home run.  Jenette Mix had 4 hits in the game.  Fisher and Norissa Stetter also hit home runs for RMC.

Eagles sweep Lincoln College!

The Lady Eagles improved to 15-12 for the season with a double-header sweep of Lincoln College.  Lora Fisher (senior; Casey, IL) was the winning pitcher in the first game as she struck out four and walked none in the Eagles’ 3-0 victory.

In the second game, Jeanette Mix (junior; Effingham, IL) and Jessie Shay (junior; Atlanta, IL) both doubled and Shay was the winning pitcher as the Eagles won 9-2.  Kristina Hoffart (freshman; Calgary, Alberta) went 3-for-4 with on RBI.  Chris Atton (freshman; Palos Heights, IL) was 2-for-3, Shay went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Ashley Grako (junior; Streator, IL) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Lady Eagles split weekend games!

Hosting their annual Eagles Fest weekend, the Lady Eagles of Robert Morris-Springfield split their two games.  The weekends opening contest, quite possibly a preview of a match-up later in the USCAA Nationals, the Lady Eagles faced St. Mary's of the Woods (defending USCAA National Champs).  In the bottom of the first, RMC jumped out to a 1-0 lead.  The score would remain the same until fifth inning with both ball clubs scoring a run.  Trailing 2-1 heading into the seventh inning, St. Mary's would strike a two-out rally to tie the ball-game at 2-2.  RMC was unable to score a run in the bottom of the seventh.  St. Mary's momentum carried into the eighth inning as they would plate another run for the eventual 3-2 victory.  Lora Fisher pitched a strong game for RMC allowing only four hits.  Timely hits for St. Mary's and some defensive lapses for RMC hurt the Lady Eagles.

In their second game of the weekend, RMC hosted NCAA Division II Oakland City University.  Jessie Shay pitched well for 6 1/3 innings with Lora Fisher coming for relief to secure the Eagles 5-4 victory.

Robert Morris sweeps MacMurray!

Lora Fisher (senior; Casey, IL) set a school record and recorded a season high striking out 16 batters as Robert Morris-Springfield shut down MacMurray 7-1.  In addition to only allowing a three-hits, Fisher also contributed to the offense as she was 2-for-4 from the plate.  Fisher improves to 7-4 for the season.  Jessie Shay (junior; Atlanta, IL) and Kristina Hoffart (freshman; Calgary, Alberta) were 3-for-4 and 2-for-4 respectively.

In game 2, Stacey Brown (freshman; Pleasant Plains, IL) improved her record to 4-1 allowing one unearned run and striking out 9 batters.  Norissa Stetter (senior; Geneseo, IL) and Fisher were both 3-for-4 from the plate as Robert Morris defeated MacMurray 9-1.

Show Me Games recap!

The Lady Eagles traveled to Springfield, MO to take part in the season opening Show Me Games hosted by Evangel College.  Their first game was against the University of Missouri-Rolla.  Scoreless through five-innings, UMR was able to finally get to pitcher Lora Fisher (senior; Casey, IL) and tag her for five runs in the sixth-inning.  RMC was able to get one run back in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI by Ashley Grako (junior; Streator, IL).

In game two, the Eagles' bats came alive scoring five runs in the second-inning and coasting to a 5-1 victory.  Stacey Brown (freshman; Pleasant Plains, IL) recorded her first collegiate victory on the mound.  Providing the offense was Renae Krueger (freshman; Mt. Pulaski, IL), Becky Von De Bur (freshman; Springfield, IL), Tara Doran (junior; Fairbury, IL) and Kristina Hoffart (freshman; Calgary, Alberta).

The Eagles played host school, Evangel, in game three on Friday.  Lora Fisher was back on the mound and dueled Evangel's pitching staff through seven-innings.  With both clubs being held scoreless through seven-innings, Evangel was able to get a run in the eigth-inning for a 1-0 victory.  RMC had two runners thrown out at the plate on bang-bang plays.

After going 1-2 on Friday, RMC was paired with Briar Cliff for Saturday's contest.  In horrible weather conditions RMC prevailed for a 3-1 victory.  Lora Fisher recorded her first win of the season and is now 1-3.  Becky Von De Bur was the hitting star for the Eagles has she drove in all three runs for Robert Morris.

Tournament was then called due to weather conditions.

Fisher, Eagles drop season opener!

Hosting NCAA Division II opponent Quincy University in their home opener, the Lady Eagles looked very sharp through the first six innings.  Lora Fisher (senior; Casey, IL) held the Lady Hawks scoreless until the top of the seventh when Theresa Bertelli hit a two-out home run to tie the game.  Quincy would win the game 2-1 in eight innings.

The Lady Eagles fell to 0-2 for the season when they were defeated 5-1 in the second game of their double-header.  That game was shortened to four innings due to darkness.

2005-2006 new Lady Eagles!

Coach Mark Brayfield is very happy with his 2005-06 recruitment class, here's a look at the new faces:

Christina Atton - freshman infielder from Palos Heights, IL (Alan Shepard HS).  Christina plays mostly 2nd base and is very affective with her speed on the base paths and her ability to handle the bat.  During the summer, she played for the Joliet Dirt Devils and traveled to the Netherlands as part of the Coast to Coast Program.  Christina received SICA East All-Conference honors as a junior and senior in high school.

Jessie Shay - junior pitcher/infielder from Atlanta, IL (Olympia HS/Kankakee CC).  High School State Champs in 2002 & 2003, region champs with Kankakee in 2004 & 2005.  Jessie played for the Bloomington Lady Hearts in her summer league and competed against Jennie Finch of the Chicago Bandits women's pro team.  "Jessie is a fierce competitor and will push everyone to excel at their best" states Coach Brayfield.

Becky Von DeBur - freshman catcher from Springfield, IL (Sacred Heart Griffin/Southeast HS).  Central State Eight All-Conference Honors as a senior and member of the State Journal Register HS All-Star Game.  Gatorade Rookie of the Year at Southeast by her teammates and coaching staff.  Becky has a fast bat along with good mechanics that should suit her well to hit collegiate pitching.

Stacie Brown - freshman pitcher/outfielder from Pleasant Plains, IL (Pleasant Plains HS).  All-Sangamo Conference 1st Team in 2004 & 2005.  Member of the State Journal Register HS All-Star Game.  Stacie should battle as a freshman facing some experience collegiate hitters but Coach Brayfield and staff believe Stacie has the right stuff to excel at this level.  Stacie pitched 14 scoreless innings in her regional championship game her senior year and that experience will benefit Stacie at the collegiate ranks.

Renae Krueger - freshman outfielder/infielder from Mt. Pulaski, IL (Mt. Pulaski HS/Okawville HS).  A switch hitter, Renae has worked hard to develop herself into an accomplished left slap/bunt type hitter.  Coach Brayfield states, "Renae's running speed will help out overall plan of getting faster and developing more team speed."

Jennette Mix - junior infielder/outfielder from Effingham, IL (Effingham HS/Parkland CC).  One of the most athletic players to play for the Lady Eagles, Jennette was an All-Apollo Conference selection her junior and senior year of high school.  While at Parkland, Jennette was a member of their national tournament teams that finished 2nd and 5th.  Jennette was voted High School MVP twice.

Kristina Hoffart - freshman infielder from Chestermere, Alberta Canada.  Kristina is tremendous all-around athlete being voted Female Athlete of the School for four straight years.  Kristina spent the summer as part of Team Alberta that won the Bronze Medal in a 16-team tournament where Kristina was chosen 1st Team All-Tournament.  Kristina has exceptional fielding and hitting mechanics and should adapt well to the collegiate game.
