USCAA honors Lake County Soccer Athletes!

Newport, VA -  The United States Collegiate Athletic Association recently announced its 2009-2010 Academic All-Americans at the USCAA National Soccer Championships in Connecticut.  Five members of the Robert Morris Lake County Women's and Men's Soccer Team earned All-American Academic status. 

Linda Alvarez (Waukegan, IL) was a repeat recipient of this honor for the Lady Eagles.  Alvarez was joined by teammates Joanne Mariscal (Round Lake Beach, IL) and Eden Matus (Waukegan, IL) as first-time award winners.  Both Daniel Rodriguez (Panama City, Panama) and Nemanja Nenadovic (Gurnee, IL) also were named to the USCAA All-Academic Team for the Lake County Eagles Men's  Soccer program.

Melissa CastroKickers Place Finishing Touch on Season!!!!!

The RMU Lady Eagles Soccer Team capped off a solid final three weeks to their 2009 season by defeating Rockford College 1-0 on Friday Oct. 30 in Rockford, IL.  The game was played for the most part in a driving rainstorm.  However, that did not deter the efforts or play by the Eagles.

Once again Melissa Castro (Fr. - Park City, IL) led RMU with the lone unassisted goal of the game.  Castro (pictured at right) placed four shots on goal in the contest before scoring at the 32 minute mark of the 1st half.  Sylvia Tabaka (Jr. - Lake Zurich, IL) also placed three shots on net along with Isamar Serrato (So. - Zion, IL) who fired two shots on goal.  In addition, Daphne Vazquez (So. - Waukegan, IL)  recorded her 1st career shoutout.

Coach Farr was pleased with his team's performance at Rockford, especially over the final three weeks of the season.  "Our ladies finished their season on a positive note.  It was a strong TEAM effort. This provides for us a bright outlook for next year."

The Eagles completed their 2009 campaign with an overall record of 5-11 with three of the victories coming within the last three weeks of the season.

Lady Eagles Hang Tough with CLC!

Playing one of their better overall games this season from start to finish, the RMU Women's Soccer Team (Lake County) lost a tight 2-0 battle with the College of Lake County on Wednesday Oct. 21 at Dugdale Park in Waukegan. 

The Eagles defense led by Nancy Manjarrez (Sr. - Waukegan, IL), Eden Matus (Jr. - Waukegan, IL) and Jeannette Hernandez (Fr. - Park City, IL) was stellar for the majority of the game.  Daphne VazquezDaphne Vazquez (So. - Waukegan. IL) played an outstanding game in goal as well.  Vazquez (pictured at right) turned away many a quality shots by the Lancers.

Coach Farr stated to his team after the game "I am very proud of your efforts and performance this evening against a solid team.  You played hard from start to finish and that's all we can ask from you.  Hopefully, our improved play over the last two games will help us in our upcoming final contests."
 
The Eagles record dropped to 4-10 overall and will travel to UW Parkside on Tuesday Oct. 27 for their next competition.

RMU Kickers Victorious over Mt. Mary!!!

The Lady Eagles managed to grind out a hard fought 2-1 decision over visiting Mt. Mary on Monday Oct. 19 at Dugdale Park, Waukegan.  Melissa Castro (Fr. - Park City, IL) scored both goals in the tightly played contest.

Castro had plenty of support from a stellar defense anchored by Jossy Mariscal (So. - Round Lake Beach, IL) and goalie Thaina Turcios (So. - Zion, IL).  (All three players are pictured below in order from left to right.)

The Eagles record for the year improved to 4-9 as they will host the College of Lake County on Wednesday Oct. 21 at Dugdale Park, Waukegan beginning at 3:30.

Eagles Lose Tough Battle with RMU Chicago!


Jessica OlivaresThe Lady Eagles Soccer Team from Lake County played a spirited contest against sister school RMU Chicago before bowing out by a score of 2-1 on Monday Oct. 12 at Dugdale Park.  Jessica Olivares (Fr. - Round Lake, IL) scored the lone goal for the Eagles.  Olivares (pictured left) recorded her 1st goal of her collegiate career to tie up the match in the 2nd half.  RMU (Chicago) scored minutes later for the go ahead tally.

The Lady Eagles are 3-9 for the season and will next host Mt. Mary on Monday Oct. 19 at Dugdale Park beginning at 4:00 PM.

 

 





Lady Kickers Iced in the Tundra!


Playing in winter-like conditions over this past weekend in the upper UP and northern Wisconsin, the Robert Morris Women's Soccer Team lost two tough contestsMelissa Castro 4-1 against Finlandia University and 10-0 to Northland International University. 

 

Melissa Castro (Fr. - Park City) scored RMU's lone goal over the weekend in Friday's contest against Finlandia.  Castro's (pictured at right) goal cut the lead to 2-1 before Finlandia notched two more late scores to put the game away.

Several injuries to key players including one to Captain Dulce Ortiz (Sr. - Waukegan, IL) left the Lady Eagles roster somewhat depleted for Saturday's contest against Northland.  Thus, a 10-0 loss was the result.  RMU played a solid second half, allowing only 1 goal to finish the trip on a positive note. 

Robert Morris' record now stands at 3-8 for the season as the Lady Kickers will travel to Concordia U. (Mequon, WI) on Wednesday Oct. 7 for their next match.






Eagles Score Two Victories at Mt. Mary Tourney!!!!!!!!!


After struggling in their first three contests, the Lady Eagles posted two impressiveSylvia Tabaka victories over the weekend at the Mt. Mary Tourney played in Milwaukee, WI.   On Friday Sept 4 RMU defeated the host school Mt. Mary by a 3-1 margin for its 1st win this season.  Continued pressure on the Mt. Mary defense by Robert Morris led to goals by Sylvia Tabaka (Jr. - Lake Zurich), Nancy Manjerrez (Sr. - Waukegan) and Bridgette Alvarez (Jr. - Waukegan). 

 

On Saturday Sept 5 RMU returned to play Rockford College with similar results adding a 2-0 victory to boost their season record to 2-3.  Sylvia Tabaka (at right) added another goal for the weekend and was joined by Linda Alvarez (Sr. - Waukegan) who contributed the 2nd goal.  Josie Mariscal (So. - Round Lake) added an assist.

The Eagles will head back to Milwaukee, WI on Tuesday Sept 8 to meet Wisconsin Lutheran.

Lady Kickers Have Rough Start to Open Season

The 2009 season started off on a tough note for the Lady Eagles Soccer Team from Lake County.  Riddeled with several injuries to key starters, RMU lost its first three games to the University of St. Francis 5-0 (Exhibition), Oakton CC 5-0 and highly rated Concordia University (MN) 11-0.  The losses leave the Eagles record at 0-2 with their next scheduled competition at Elmhurst College Weds Sept 2.
