Kurt Melcher
Head Coach
Coach Melcher is entering his sixteenth year as head women's soccer coach at Robert Morris University. He's doing so with confidence – in the last decade RMU soccer has consistently been ranked nationally and has never finished lower than third in the conference. The 2010 season was no exception. Melcher led his team to its sixth Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) title and its fourth trip to the NAIA National Tournament eventually culminating in a trip to the NAIA “Elite Eightâ€. The team placed seven players on the CCAC All-Conference team, three players on the NAIA/NSCAA All-Region team, and three players were selected as NAIA All-Americans. Over sixteen years Melcher has coached 22 NAIA All-Americans, 33 All-Region players, and 64 All-CCAC athletes. Six Lady Eagles have earned CCAC Player of the Year honors, three also being named NAIA Region VII Players of the Year. Melcher is perhaps proudest of the 38 of players who have been named NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athletes, an honor that highlights the program's commitment to academics. Melcher says, "Robert Morris University provides our program with absolutely everything we need to be successful. From equipment to administrative support, everything is done first class."
Prior to his RMU career, Melcher played soccer at NCAA Division I University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC). As captain he led that team to its best record ever. His coaching career began in 1992 at UIC asthe first full-time assistant coach. In 1995 Melcher took on the role of head coach of the newly formed women's soccer team. Melcher holds a United States Soccer Federation National "B" coaching license, and has worked with the NSCAA, and IYSA, and has been actively involved with the Illinois Olympic Development Program. He was selected as CCAC Coach of the Year three different times (2002, 2004, 2010) and once as Region VII Coach of the Year (2002). Melcher is also an active member of Green-White S.C., a top amateur soccer club in the Chicagoland area.
