Staton Beats Rain at Carthage!!!
Krystal Staton (So. - Wkgn, IL) carded a 96 in the rainy muggy conditions at Bristol
Oaks G.C. (par 72) to place in the middle of the field at the Carthage College Invitational on Friday Sept. 12. Staton (at right) improved by 17 shots from last year's round at Carthage. UW Whitewater won the event with a 322 team total. Saturday's tournament in Lockport hosted by St. Francis was washed out due to the torrential rains in the Chicagoland area. Also canceled was Tuesday's Elmhurst Invitational Invitational at Oak Brook G.C .due
to severe flooding. On Friday Sept. 6 Kelsey Hirmer (Fr. - Elwood, IL) shot 103 at the Knox Invitational played on Soangetaha C.C. (par 72) in Galesburg, IL. Krystal Staton struggled with a 111 over the tight, hilly, wooded layout featuring lightening quick greens. Wheaton College shot an outstanding 333 to take team honors. Hirmer (pictured left) led the Eagles on Saturday Sept. 7 at the Monmouth Fighting Scots Invitational shooting 102 on the par 72 Gibson Woods G.C. layout. Staton followed close behind with a 104. North Central College won their 1st tournament ever shooting 335 on the tight, hilly tract. Both Hirmer (109) and Staton (115) struggled on Tuesday at the North Central Invitational played at Cress Creek C.C. (par 72) in Naperville, IL. Heavy rains from the previous two days left the course playing extremely long from the soft and soggy conditions accounting for some very high scores overall. Lewis University (NCAA D-2) easily outdistanced the field (335) which featured NAIA and NCAA D-3 schools as well. The Eagles will travel to Decatur, IL Saturday and Sunday Sept. 27-28 to compete in the Millikin U. Invitational.

Due to inclement weather caused by the remnants of Hurricane Gustav, the Augustana Women's Golf Invitational at Emeis GC (Davenport, IA) was canceled. The tournament is the first fall invitational to be called off in RMU's 6 year history. The Eagles will hope to resume play in Friday's tournament at Knox College in Galesburg, IL.

Kara Ballinger (74), Beth Slusher (75) and Katie Powell (76) all from Bethel placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Krystal Staton (So. - Waukegan) shot 92 for the Eagles attaining her personal best. Staton (at right) has worked to improve her game in the offseason and her efforts are evident in the early results. Kelsey Hirmer (Fr. - Elwood) playing in her 1st collegiate tourney played well but was struck with illness during the round and had to withdraw. The Eagles will travel to Iowa and Central IL. this week for the Augie, Knox and Monmouth Invitationals.
