Lady Eagles Place 2nd at St. Joe's
Fighting 40 degree temperatures with gusty winds and showers, the RMC Women's Golfers managed to place 2nd behind NCAA D2 University of Missouri(St. Louis) on Fri at the St. Joe's Invitational. The Lady Eagles shot 363 to finish a distant 2nd behind St. Louis's 340. St. Joe's was third 370, Bethel College 397, Marian College 413, and St. Francis last(did not have enough scores for a team total). Robert Morris was led by Jill Franz with an 82(2nd place medal). Lauren May of Missouri St. Louis shot a phenomenal 76 to place 1st. Britney Lindgren played for well RMC in the adverse conditions with an 89(7th) place, followed by Crystal Nuetzmann 95, and Sandy Spaniak 97. The Lady Eagles will host the final regular season spring tourney at Bonnie Brook Golf Course with the exact same field this Sat starting at 11:00AM.
RMC Wins Mt. Mercy Invitational
After improving over the weekend with a 340-344 (684) 12th/20 finish at the tough IWU Spring Fling featuring 4 of the top 8 NCAA D-3 teams, the Lady Eagles won the Mt. Mercy Invitational with a 346 total outdistancing Region 7 rivals St. Francis 348 and Mt. Mercy 361. Loras College rounded out the field with a 355. The win helps to keep RMC's hopes for an NAIA national bid still alive. RMC was led by Jill Franz who shot a 3 over par 75 to take Medalist honors. Lauren Hanzel also played well and took a 3rd place medal with an 84. Other RMC scorers were Crystal Nuetzmann 91 and Sandy Spaniak 96.
At the IWU Spring Fling scores were:
Jill Franz 77-80(157-14th),Lauren Hanzel 89-87(176), Sandy Spaniak 86-90(176), Crystal Nuetzmann 88-89 (177), Britney Lindgren 90-88(178). The Lady Eagles will take to the road this Fri to compete in the St. Joe's Invitational.
Lady Eagles Open Spring Season
RMC Women's Golfers(#26 Ranked NAIA) opened its spring campaign with a disappointing 6th place finish at the St. Francis Invitational. Robert Morris shot 374 with Jill Franz placing 10th with 87 at the par 72 Broken Arrow G.C. in Lockport. Other RMC scores include Crystal Nuetzmann 93, Lauren Hanzel 94, and Britney Lindgren 100. Lauren May of University of St. Louis Missouri won the individual medalist honors with a 77. Illinois Wesleyan(7th ranked NCAA D-3) won the team championship with a 336, followed by St. Ambrose(#9 ranked NAIA) 341. The Lady Eagles will travel to IWU this weekend for a 2 day tourney and Mon to Mt. Mercy.
Lady Eagles Place 3rd at NAIA Regionals
RMC Women's Golfers completed a very successful fall season with a 3rd place finish at the NAIA Regionals in Iowa City with a 343/339 - 682 2 day total. St. Ambrose won the Regional and the automatic bid to the Nationals in May in South Bend, Indiana with a sizzling 319/330 - 649 total. St. Francis placed just ahead of RMC with 331/343 - 674, Mount Mercy(host school) placed 4th at 347/344 - 691, followed by Grand View College 357/362 -719, Waldorf College 374/349 - 723, and Iowa Wesleyan 424/440 - 864. RMC shot 69 shots better this year(2nd year) than last year at the regional.
Jill Franz won back to back Region 7 Player of the Year Honors by shooting 80/80 -160 besting Katie Brubacker 81/80 - 161 of St. Ambrose by 1 shot for tournament Medalist Honors. Jill had already qualified for the 2005 Nationals by virtue of her 8th place finish in the Nationals last spring. Congratulations to Jill!!! Lauren Hanzel 83/82 - 165 also played outstanding for the Eagles and missed by 1 shot of placing on the All-Region 7 Team. Crystal Nuetzmann had 2 solid rounds of 89/85 - 174, followed by Britney Lindgren 91/92 - 183 playing well in her 1st Regional. Tamie Booth also shot 98/99 - 197. The Lady Eagles will pick up the clubs again in the Spring and await to see where they stand nationally when the 1st National Ratings(top 25 to Nationals)are released at the end of this November. The team overall average per round improved by 25 shots this year. The final ratings are completed in May after the spring season.
Lady Eagles Win IMI/CCAC Conference Tourney
RMC Women's Golf bounced back from a tough weekend in Wisconsin to play their best golf of the year at Foss Park Golf Course by shooting a school record 346-333 (679 Total). St. Francis was runnerup at 720, followed by Bethel 751 and Davenport (MI). Jill Franz played superlative with rounds of 75-74(149) at 1 over par to earn Medalist honors and Player of the Year in the IL./Mi/Ind Conference. Crystal Nuetzmann also played well 87-83(170) finishing 2nd and earning All-Conference honors as well. Britney Lindgren 95-86(181) 8th and Lauren Hanzel 90-91(181) 9th also played solid for the Eagles. Sandy Spaniak shot 94-90(184) and had her scores count both days. The Lady Eagles will travel to Iowa City for the NAIA Regionals this Sun and Mon.
RMC Struggles at Carthage/UW Whitewater
The Lady Eagles suffered through an "off" weekend in Wisconsin placing 8th out of 12 at the Carthage Invitational with a 368 total. Illinois Wesleyan placed 1st with 339. At UW Whitewater RMC shot 379/360 for a 739 two day total. Wisconsin-Eau Claire shot a phenomenal 330/360 (645) to win the tourney. One bright spot for the women golfers was the play of Jill Franz who placed 2nd at Carthage(79) and tied for 8th at Whitewater(85/79 = 164). Other scores included Crystal Nuetzmann 93, Sandy Spaniak 97, and Britney Lindgren 99 at the Carthage Invitational. Lauren Hanzel 93/91, Britney Lindgren 101/93, Crystal Nuetzmann 100-day1/Sandy Spaniak 97-day 2 at UW Whitewater were the counting scores. The Lady Eagles will try to right themselves for the conference tournament this Fri/Sat at Foss Park Golf Course.
Lady Golfers Place 2nd at Elmhurst
For the 2nd consecutive tournament the Lady Eagle Golfers fell just short of a tourney victory, being edged out by Wheaton College 360-362. Lewis University who nudged out RMC at St. Francis last Friday, shot 367 to place 3rd followed by Elmhurst College and Aurora University. Jill Franz led the Eagles with a 5 over par 77 over the Oak Brook Golf Club layout which included slick greens and PGA/LPGA Sunday pin placements. Tamie Booth shot her best round to date with a 91, followed by Crystal Nuetzmann 95 and Britney Lindgren 99. Robert Morris travels to Carthage this Friday and to U W Whitewater for a 2 day event Sat/Sun.
RMC Lady Golfers Place 2nd at St. Francis
The Lady Eagles took 2nd out of 6 at the St. Francis Invitational played at Broken Arrow Golf Course in Lockport on Friday. Lewis College(NCAA D-2) won the tournament with a 354 total followed by RMC 362(placed 2nd with 5th score tie-breaker), University of St. Francis 362, University of St. Louis (NCAA D-2) 364, St. Joe's(Indiana)380, and Iowa Wesleyan(3 girls WD - no team score).
Jill Franz was the tournament medalist with a 7 over par 79 in the 25-30 mile an hour winds. This was the 4th tournament that Jill has won at Broken Arrow out of the 5 tourneys she has played there in the last 2 years. Crystal Nuetzmann also placed 8th with a 90 including a 40 on the back nine. Other scores included Tamie Booth 96, Lauren Hanzel 97, and Britney Lindgren 99 was the tie-breaker for 2nd place team total. Robert Morris will next compete in the Elmhurst Invitational Monday afternoon at the Oak Brook Golf Club.
Women Golfers Have Successful Monmouth Tourney
The Lady Eagles continued its successful season with a 4th place finish out of 21 teams at the Monmouth Invitational at the hilly and wooded Gibson Woods. Crystal Nuetzmann led the Eagles with her lowest round in competition with an 83(10th place medal) over the par 75 layout. Also scoring for the Eagles were Jill Franz 85(13th place), Lauren Hanzel 92, Tamie Booth and Britney Lindgren 95. 144 golfers competed in this the largest tournament of the season.The Lady Eagles next travel to St. Francis on Friday.
Lady Eagles Place 3rd at St. Joe's
Robert Morris Women's Golfers placed 3rd out 8 teams in their 2nd tournament of the season at St. Joe's(Indiana). Depauw(#3 NCAA D-3) won the tournament with a 331 followed by Franklin 349, RMC 361, UM St. Louis 362, St. Francis 366, Bethel 374, St. Joe's 376, Anderson U. 376. Jill Franz paced the Eagles with an 81 for 3rd place just 1 shot behind the co-medalists. Crystal Nuetzmann placed 10th with an 88 followed by Britney Lindgren 95, and Lauren Hanzel 97. RMC will travel to Monmouth College on Sat for the Monmouth Invitational.
RMC Wins Carthage College Women's Golf Opener
RMC Lady Eagles opened its Fall 2004 Season with a tournament win at Carthage College. Jill Franz paced the RMC as tournament medalist with a 76, followed by Lauren Hanzel 87, Crystal Nuetzmann 90, and Britney Lindgren 99. The Lady Eagles travel to St. Joseph's(Indiana) on Tues for their next competition.
