Eagle Bowlers head NCBCA Academic All-American list for sixth consecutive year!

Chicago, IL - For the sixth consecutive year, the Robert Morris University Men's & Women's Bowling teams topped the list of National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association 2011-2012 Academic All-American teams as a total of 23 Eagle Bowlers have earned the distinction.  In addition, the Peoria Women's and Men's Bowling teams performed exceptionally well as eleven bowlers earned honors.  Lake County's first year Women's squad also had one recipient.

To be selected to the NCBCA team, a bowler must be a United States Bowling Congress collegiate athlete who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 based on a 4.0 scale.  Over 500 collegiate bowlers earned academic honors this year, with RMU student-athletics accounting for 35 of those named. 


"We are extremely proud of all our student-athletes. They continue to do a wonderful job balancing the demands of their education with a high level of performance on the lanes," said RMU Director of Bowling and Head Coach Dale Lehman. Lehman added "In addition, our athletes are not only some of the best bowlers in the nation, they are leaders in the classroom as well."

Both the RMU Chicago-based Men's & Women's Bowling teams will compete in the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate and Team National Championships on April 18-21 in Lincoln, NB.

#1 ranked Eagle Bowlers capture USBC Sectional title, #4 Lady Eagles also qualify for finals!

Fairview Heights, IL.  -  The #1 ranked men's bowling team in the nation, the Robert Morris

University Eagles, displayed why they have remained at the top of the college ratings over the last two months by outdistancing the 20 team field at the USBC Team Sectional Championships by a total of 400 pins and punching their ticket for the fourth consecutive year to the National Team Championships held in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 18-21, 2012.

 

The Eagles rolled a 299 game during the final rounds for a 13,159 pin total to place icing on the cake in the 64 game Baker bowl event conducted on Saturday and Sunday, March 10-11 at the St. Clair Bowl Lanes.  In addition, RMU's Chris Pierson (Jr. - Kenosha, WI)  averaged 219.6 on Friday, March 9, to place 6th out of 162 competitors and advance to the USBC Singles Championships.  Also, bowling well for the Eagles was Marshall Kent (Fr. - Yakima, WA), averaging 217 for 6 games and just missing the cut by 17 pins.

 

Joining the Eagles at the USBC National Championships will be the #4 ranked Lady Eagles, who will be making their fifth straight trip to the finals.  The Lady Eagles knocked down 11,832 pins to grab the fourth and final qualifying position as Newman University's total of 11,985 pinfall topped the 17 team women's field.  Individually, Elisa Rivera (Sr. - Cicero, IL) averaged 205 (6th/137) for 6 games and missed qualifying by just 12 pins as the top 4 women advanced.  Alejandra Mora (So. -  Bogota, Columbia) also bowled well by averaging 200.5 (8th).

The Peoria Lady Eagles registered an 11,638 pinfall to finish 6th in their third straight appearance in the USBC Sectional Championships.  Top performers for Peoria were Hailey Jepson (Sr. - Durant, IA), who averaged 196.2 (14th) and Nicole Hartseil's (So. Washington, IL) 189.7 (33rd).    

Lake County's Lady Eagles placed 13th overall in their first year of existence by knocking down 10,925 pins.  Freshman Symantha Rolph (Antioch, IL) paced the RMU (Lake County) with a 178.5 average (69th) followed by Brenda Voight's (Sr. - Waukegan, IL) 175 average (73rd).

"I am extremely proud of all our bowlers.  They have performed to the highest level of their ability all year long and the dividends are paying off.  We are excited once again to be able to represent Robert Morris University and to compete for the National Championship," stated Coach Dale Lehman.

 

Both Chicago-based teams will tune up for the Nationals by next competing in the NAIA Invitational Championships at the Western Bowl in Indianapolis, IN from March 30- April 1.   

The CBS Sports Network will be televising the USBC Singles Championships semi-finals and finals as well as the Team Championship finals for the first time this year.  Telecasts will be on a tape delay basis beginning on Friday, May 4 at 10:00 PM, EST and continuing for the following 3 Fridays.  Two telecasts will cover the Singles Championships and an additional two will cover the Team Championships.  Each broadcast will air for 1 hour.

USBC Sectional fields announced, four Eagle squads to bowl in Fairview Hts!

Arlington, TX - A record four Robert Morris Men's and Women's Bowling teams, headed by the #1 ranked Chicago-based Men's squad, have earned a spot in the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles and Team Sectional qualifying round to be held March 10-11 at the St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, IL. The announcement was made by the USBC on Wednesday, February 22, via a live stream feed on bowl.com, which included high praise and recognition from the announcers as to the large amount of RMU qualifiers.

Eighty men's and sixty-four women's teams, the largest field ever assembled for a USBC National Championship Tournament, were selected to participate at four regional sites. The top four men's and women's teams from each sectional will advance to the 2012 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will be held April 19-21 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, NE. In addition, the top four men and women at each sectional site plus eight individuals from the men's field based on size at each location, will advance to the 2012 USBC Singles Championship beginning April 17 and concluding April 21 at the same Sun Valley Lanes.

In their quest for a national title, the #1 RMU Men's Eagles, winners of seven tourneys this season, will be joined by the #4 ranked Chicago-based Lady Eagles, the #12 Peoria Lady Eagles and the #55 Lake County Lady Eagles. Both Chicago-based squads are the #1 seeds at the Fairview Sectional while Peoria is the #4 seed and first year program Lake County is seeded 12th. The #4 ranked William Penn University Men's Team is the second seed at Fairview while #8 Newman University is the second seed on the women's side.

"The tremendous success of our program is a testament to the quality of our student-athletes, their parents, the coaching staff and the overwhelming support of the administrative staff at Robert Morris. I am very proud of all involved and excited to see our teams compete for the big prize," commented Head Coach and Director of Bowling Operations Dale Lehman.

#1 ranked RMU Men’s Bowlers tune up for national tournament with 2nd place finish at the Hoosier Classic!

Indianapolis, IN - The #1 ranked Chicago-based Robert Morris Men's Bowlers concluded their regular season with another fine performance by finishing 2nd in the 77 team Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic on Saturday and Sunday, February 18-19 at the Western Bowl Lanes. In addition, RMU's Marshall Kent won individual tourney honors and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Kent (Fr. - Yakima, WA) led the 600 competitors by averaging 214.78 in 9 games bowled and was supported by teammate Chris Pierson's (Jr. - Wauwatosa, WI) 19th place finishing by rolling 200.11 over the two days.

The #3 ranked Lady Eagles from Chicago had a rough start, ending the first day of the tournament in 14th place. However, they managed to move up to 9th just ahead of the #12 Peoria Lady Eagles' 10th place position. The first year Lake County Lady Eagles also competed in the Hoosier Classic and placed 33rd in the 50 school event.

Alejandra Mora (So. - Bogota, Columbia) led the Chicago-based Lady Eagles by averaging 198.89 for the tournament and placed 4th overall out of the just over 400 lady bowlers. Mora (pictured at left) was also named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts. Torrie Decker (So. - Van Wert, OH) averaged 189.78 in placing 19th for RMU.


Bowling well for the Peoria Lady Eagles were Courtney Wolf (So. - Pleasant Prairie, WI), rolling 192.33 (14th) and Hailey Jepson (Sr. - Durant, IA), placing 29th by averaging 185.67. Brenda Voight (Sr. - Waukegan, IL) was Lake County's top performer with an 87th place finish. Also participating in the Hoosier Classic was the Robert Morris Peoria Men's Eagles, as they came in at 69th place.

The RMU Bowling teams will await the United States Bowling Congress' announcement on Wednesday, February 22 as to which schools have qualified for the 2012 USBC Sectional Competition on March 9 at the following sites: Euless, TX; Smyrma, TN; Allentown, PA; Fairview Heights, IL.

#1 Eagle Bowlers notch 7th tourney title at McKendree Baker Challenge!
Fairview Heights, IL - The #1 ranked Robert Morris Men's Bowlers continued their excellence this season by rolling to their 7th tournament victory at the McKendree Baker Challenge this past Saturday and Sunday, February 4-5, on the St. Clair Bowling Lanes. The Eagles topped the field of twenty-five with a big push in Sunday's match play finale of eight teams to take home the 1st place hardware.

The victory by RMU will solidify their #1 national ranking heading into the last regular season tournament in two weeks. The Men's Gold team also performed well in the JV division as they sat in 1st place after 40 Baker games were completed only to lose in Sunday's match play format.

The #2 Lady Eagles placed 1st in Saturday's 40 Baker games by coming back from 128 pins to surpass #1 Lindenwood University. However, they fell early on in the eight team match play (best 2 of 3 games). The Lady Gold squad bowled well and placed 3rd overall in the JV flight. The #11 Peoria Lady Eagles came in with another solid performance while placing seventh and the first year Lake County Lady Eagles program finished 13th.

"Our teams have excelled all year and are peaking as the national tournaments draw closer," stated Coach Dale Lehman.

The Chicago, Peoria and Lake County programs will all participate in the final regular season competition at the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic in two weeks on Saturday and Sunday, February 18-19, at the Western Bowl in Indianapolis, IN.

RMU Bowlers pack one-two punch in latest national rankings!

Chicago, IL - The latest rankings from CollegeBowling.com were released on January 27, 2012 and the Chicago-based Eagles Men's Bowling Team maintained their #1 ranking and the Lady Eagles from Chicago moved up to #2.

While the Men's Bowlers remained #1 over rival #2 Lindenwood University, the Lady Eagles jumped past the University of Pikeville into the #2 ranking behind the #1 Lindenwood University Lady Lions. In addition, the Peoria Lady Eagles came in at #11 nationally while the Lake County Lady Eagles were positioned at #57. The Peoria Men's Eagles were rated #119.

Both Chicago and Peoria programs will return to action this Saturday and Sunday, February 4-5 at the McKendree Baker Challenge on the St. Clair Bowl/Bel Air Bowl lanes in Fairview Heights, IL.

RMU Bowlers roll a pair of deuces in latest national rankings!  

Chicago, IL  -  Both Robert Morris University - Chicago based bowling teams are currently ranked second in the nation according to the latest poll by CollegeBowling.com.

The RMU Men's Bowlers have steadily moved up in the polls by virtue of their excellence on the lanes over the past month while the Lady Eagles have remained steadfast at their #2 ranking.  Lindenwood University is rated #1 in both the Men's and Women's division.

The Peoria Lady Eagles have also remained in the top ten at #9 while the first year Lake County based RMU Lady Eagles moved up to #53.  The young Peoria Men's squad is at #117.

"I am extremely proud of the progress and success of all of our teams," stated Director of Bowling Operations and Head Coach Dale Lehman.

All bowling programs will compete in the Roto Grip Eagles NAIA Baker Challenge in West Chicago, IL on January 14-15 while the Chicago based bowlers will be busy over the holidays traveling to Pennsylvania for the Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Classic and the Nittany Lion Kegler Classic. 

 

 

Peoria & Lake County Lady Bowlers perform well at Titan Invitational!

Oshkosh, WI - Both Lady Eagle Bowling teams from Peoria and Lake County represented Robert Morris University quite well at the UW Oshkosh Titan Invitational conducted on Saturday & Sunday, November 19-20 at the Oshkosh Lanes.  The Peoria Lady Eagles placed 3rd out of the 11 competing schools while RMU Lake County finished right on the heels of their sister school in 4th place.

 

Bowling well for Peoria was Stephanie Parsolano (So. - Spring Hill, FL- pictured at left) who earned All Tournament Stephanie ParsolanoTeam Honors by virtue of her 5th place finish.  Also rolling well for Peoria were Ivana Martinez (Fr. - Peru, IL) and Kat Schild (Jr. - Schaumburg, IL) finishing 8th and 19th, respectively. 

 

Symantha Rolph (Fr. - Antioch, IL) led the Lake County contingent by placing 10th, followed by Emily Unewitz (So. - Wadsworth, IL) 18th and Courtney Casillas (So. - Park City, IL) 22nd.

 

The Lake County Bowlers will be off until January 14, 2012 when they return to action at the RMU Roto Grip Eagles Baker Challenge in West Chicago, IL.  The Peoria Lady Eagles will travel to Fairview Heights, IL on Friday & Saturday, November 25-26 to bowl in the National Team Match Games.  Also participating from Robert Morris will be the Peoria Men's Team as well as the Chicago Men's and Women's squads.

 

 

 

 

Eagle Keglers bowl over the field at Warhawk Open!

Madison, WI.   The Robert Morris Men's Bowling Team rolled to their most dominating performance ever in route to a 674 pin victory at the UW Whitewater Warhawk Open on Saturday & Sunday, November 5-6.  The Eagles led the 38 team field of 300 bowlers from start to finish with Dominic Partipilo (So. - Aurora, IL) pacing RMU with a 2nd place finish and an All-Tournament selection.

 

Also bowling well for the Eagles were Mason Petrin (Fr. - West Bend, WI), placing 8th, Marshall Kent (Fr. - Yakima, WA) - 9th, Jacob Kent (So. - Newark, NJ) - 10th and Cameron Weier (Fr. - Federal Way, WA) - 11th.  Other Chicago Men's teams competing were the Maroon team who placed 13th and the Gold team that finished 28th.

 

Katie SextonIn the Women's division, the RMU Lady Eagles held the top spot after Saturday's round of six games, but slipped to 2nd place overall on Sunday.  Tawni Vollmer (Fr. - Tecumseh, MI) had a terrific tournament, placing 2nd and was named to the All-Tournament Team.  Both Katie Sexton (So. - Dyer, IN -at left) and Caitlin Hofmann (So. - Lockport, IL) had solid tourneys for Robert Morris averaging 204 and 194, respectively.  The Lady Gold team from Chicago placed 9th and the Maroon team finished 13th.

 

The Chicago teams will take off the next couple of weeks off before traveling to the National Team Match games on November 26 in Fairview Heights, IL.

 

The Peoria Lady Eagles had another solid outing while placing 4th place in the 27 team Kathleen JohnsonWomen's field.  Kathleen Johnson (Jr. - Fort Worth, TX -at right) paced RMU with a 6th place finish.  She was followed by teammate Hailey Jepson's (Sr. - Durant, IA) 10th place performance.  The Peoria Men's team wound up 29th overall.

 

The RMU Lake County Women finished 18th with Brenda Voight (Sr. - Waukegan, IL) placing 20th overall out of the 215 Women's bowlers.

 

Both Peoria and Lake County travel next weekend to Oshkosh, WI for the Titan Invitational hosted by UW Oshkosh.

Wauwatosa, WI.   It was a pretty fruitful weekend for all Robert Morris Bowling squads in the season opener at the 41st Midwest Collegiate Championships held on the AMF Bowlero Lanes.  The Lady Eagles finished 7th while the Gold placed 11th in the field of 30 squads.  The Peoria Women also finished in the top half of the field at 14th while the Lake County Bowlers, competing in their first ever tourney, placed 21st.

 

Individually, Alejandra Mora (So. - Bogota, Columbia) made the All-Tournament Team for the Lady Eagles with her 2nd place performance while teammates Katie Sexton (8th) and Torrie Decker (24th) also were solid.

 

Nicole HartseilNicole Hartseil (at left) led the Peoria contingent with a 14th place finish out the approximately 240 competitors. She was amply supported by Hailey Jepson (30th)and Courtney Wolf (32nd).

 

Kaityln Bain represented the Lake County Bowlers well while finishing 29th.  Symantha Rolph (34th) and Emily Unewitz (36th-pictured at right) also had a good tournament.

 

On the Men's side, the RMU Eagles finished 3rd out of 42 competing teams with freshman Marshall Kent placing 2nd in his first collegiate event and earning All Tournament honors.  Jacob Kent, the 2011 USBC National Singles Runner-up, wound up at 31st out of 330 bowlers while Joshua Zange was 37th.Emily Unewitz

 

"Overall, we had a pretty good start to the season.  I liked what I saw in our new bowlers.  They will compliment our already strong returning class." added Coach Dale Lehman.

 

All teams will travel to Indianapolis, IN for the Storm Western Shootout held at the Western Bowl next Staurday and Sunday, October 8-9.
