2004-2005 News

Lady Eagles finish 2nd at 2005 National Championship!

In just their 3rd season of competition, the RMC-Springfield Lady Eagles just fell short of cutting the nets down in Broken Arrow, OK.  Heading into the 2005 National Championships as the nations #1 seed, RMC looked poised to claim their first national championship.  In their first round match-up, RMC defeated Marygrove College 71-60.  The Eagles would suffer a setback as freshman point guard and 1st Team All-American Jessica Wendeln endured a hard fall to the hardwood.  A gritty competitor, Jessica would play through the tournament far less than 100% to her back.  In the semi-finals, RMC would defeat host Rhema Bible 64-53.  RMC relied on and received extra minutes and quality performance from their bench throughout the tournament.  Rachel Clines was battling a severe ankle sprain suffered in the last regular season game of the year, and starter Laurie Sanderson played only minutes battling sickness.  The championship would be a match-up between #1 RMC-Springfield and #3 Presentation College.  The experience and senior leadership of having played in this situation before looked evident from the start for Presentation.  Leading by three at half-time, Presentation jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd half and RMC was unable to cut into the lead.  Presentation defeated RMC-Springfield 59-44.

The future looks bright for the Lady Eagles basketball program.  First year coach Brad Hansen started five underclassmen in the championship game.  They will look to be hungry and return to finish what they never got started in the championship.

Best of luck to seniors to Bonnie Hobson, Theresa Wilkins and Katie Kuhns!
