Hilary Kluczynski earns RMU 2nd consecutive CCAC POW award as Eagles come up empty in Wisconsin!
Chicago, IL - The Robert Morris Women's Volleyball team rolled snake-eyes on a three-game, two-day trip over the Wisconsin border, but got some good news on Tuesday when they learned that setter Hilary Kluczynski has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.
The junior from Riverside, IL, led the Lady Eagles to a 4-1 record on the week, including the team's fourteenth win, tying the program's record for most wins in a season. She is the second consecutive Lady Eagle to earn the POW honor, following last week's honoree, Melissa Joyce (Chicago, IL).
Robert Morris went 4-0 at the Lourdes College Tournament (Ohio) to win the tournament as they only lost four sets the entire tournament. They defeated Franciscan College (OH) 3-0, the University of Michigan-Dearborn 3-1, Huntington University (IN) 3-1, before taking the championship match over host Lourdes, 3-2. Robert Morris's lone loss on the week came in a CCAC match to Illinois Tech, 2-3.
In five matches last week, Kluczynski averaged 8.05 assists per game and 2.14 digs per game while picking up 1.24 kills per game. She recorded two double-doubles with 21 assists and 14 digs in RMU's loss to CCAC rival Illinois Tech. The 2009 All-CCAC selection had 30 assists and 11 digs against Michigan-Dearborn. She also posted 41 assists vs. Franciscan (OH) in a 3-0 win.
The Lady Eagles didn't fare so well on their trip to Wisconsin on Monday and Tuesday, September 20 & 21, 2010. On Monday at the Viterbo University (WI) Tri-Match, they dropped a pair of decisions to NCAA Division III Edgewood College (WI) and the hosts. After taking the first two sets of the match with the Warriors, the Lady Eagles collapsed to fall in five games. Against the V-Hawks, RMU got off to a weak start as they lost Game 25-10. The next two games went extra time with each team winning one 26-24. Viterbo captured the fourth by 25-23 for their twentieth win of the season.
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles made the short hop from Lacrosse to Whitewater to take on the #5-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. After ending up on the wrong end of a narrow 25-22 opening game score, RMU bounced back in the second set to win 26-24 before falling 25-16 in the third. The two teams battled in the fourth with UWW prevailing 30-28.
The trip saw RMU fall to 14-7 on the season. The three teams they faced on their two day trip to Wisconsin have a combined record this season of 36-12.
