Melissa Joyce adds All-Region to list of post-season honors!

Chicago, IL - Robert Morris University-Illinois Volleyball sophomore student-athlete Melissa Joyce secured a spot on the 14-person NAIA Mideast All-Region Team as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in December 2010. Joyce is the first Robert Morris Volleyball player to secure a spot on the All-Region Team since the program's inception.

Joyce joins the ranks of players from nationally recognized teams including Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Olivet Nazarene University (IL), Taylor University (IN), Indiana Institute of Technology, and Indiana Wesleyan.   She was also named to the CCAC All-Conference team.

Joyce, a sophomore from Chicago, IL, played both on the outside and set for the Eagles, finishing the season with 314 kills, 449 assists, 385 digs, and 52 blocks. Her performance was a key to the Eagles' setting RMU records for wins, consecutive wins, and tournament titles in 2010.  She finished the record-breaking season for the Eagles ranked 45th in the nation in service aces with 54.

“Having a student-athlete like Melissa Joyce is a blessing,” said RMU Coach Lauren Joyce Hensel, who guided her team to the program's first post-season in 2010. “She is the type of player who comes in every day looking to improve not only herself but her team. She is a great example of a coachable athlete, and we look forward to seeing her contributions during her last two years.”
