Decatur stand-out Tory Goodman set for Springfield Eagles in 2010!

Springfield, IL - Robert Morris University-Springfield Men's Soccer Coach Pat Phillips has strengthened his backline and he didn't go very far to do it, reaching just east of the Capital for Decatur Eisenhower defender Tory Goodman.

Tory is a four-year varsity player who spent his freshman and sophomore seasons as a striker. As a junior, Tory made the move to defender and became the anchor of the Eisenhower's defense in his final two campaigns.

The newest Springfield Eagle is also a product of Midstate Soccer Club in Decatur, IL, where he played in the backfield. Coach Phillips expects Tory to compete for a starting position on the Eagles back line immediately.  "With Tory's experience at the club level and competing in some strong College Showcases this summer, I will expect him to come into camp prepared for the college game,"  said Coach Phillips. "We are excited to add Tory to our program and expect Tory to be a great representative of the University for the next four years."

Tory will pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree at the University's Springfield, IL Campus.

2009 Season Outlook!

Robert Morris men's soccer coach Pat Phillips has a core group of seven returning players, including six starters, to build around.

"It's probably the first time in three years that we've at least had a nucleus to build on," stated Phillips.  "It seems to be gaining chemistry and balance on and off the field.  There's a little more balance than we had in the past."

"We have a proven goal scorer in Jorge De La Fuente and Zach Lloyd is one of the best keepers I've seen around.  Zach has the skill of a Division I player, but is a bit undersized."

De La Fuente, a senior forward, is the Eagles' leading returning scorer with 14 goals.  He was voted last season to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American Honorable Mention Team.

Lloyd, a Springfield College transfer, replaces Donnie Broughton, who has moved to defense.  Joining them in the backline are returning starter Coltin Packingham and Pat Boyer, who played at Springfield College.  Freshman Nick Platipodis from St. Louis will be a welcome addition to the backfield.

Juniors Billy Bucci and Alexander James are seasoned midfielders.  Tyler Novy is a key newcomer to the midfield.

"If we can start the season off on a positive note and sustain through the month of September, we should be pretty strong in October with the majority of our games played at home."
