After his fifth season as a Robert Morris University Assistant Coach of the Men’s Soccer Team and his 16th season overall as a college coach, former Sangamon State University standout Chuck Eguez begins his 1st Season as Head Coach of the Robert Morris University-Springfield Men's Program.
Eguez was the Head Coach for the Men’s Team at Springfield College in Illinois from 1999 – 2004 and was hired as assistant coach for RMU in 2006. He also served as assistant coach for Illinois College from 1994-99.
The Quito, Ecuador native coached SCI to two National Tournament appearances, finishing 3rd in 2000 and 8th in 2003. In 2000 the school finished with its best record ever at 17-3-2 while having Mike Ngoyani recognized as player of the year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Eguez and SCI won the Region 24 Championship 5 yeas in a row and were Midwest Champions two years. He was selected as region coach of the year in 2000, 2001 and 2003 and finished 3rd in voting for National coach of the year in 2000. He coached 6 All-Americans while at SCI and has seen many countless players graduate and move on to play at top-level universities.
Eguez was hired in 2006 to be RMU’s Men’s Assistant Coach. He now steps up to replace former Head Coach Pat Phillips, who resigned after being named the new boy's head coach for Springfield High School.
"Coach Eguez will be instrumental in recruiting, mentoring, training and helping lead RMU student-athletets and RMU-Springfield Men's Soccer back to the USCAA National Tournament." stated Associate Director of Athletics Chris Ryan. "Chuck has been a member of staff for just over 5 seasons now at RMU. He knows what is expected of him, and we feel confident that he can step up and deliver."
A standout midfielder for Triton College and Sangamon State University, now University of Illinois-Springfield, Eguez led both teams to the National Tournament in their respective divisions. Triton College finished 3rd in 1988-89 and a # 2 ranking in the National Polls.
