2009 Season Outlook

Robert Morris men's soccer coach Pat Phillips has a core group of seven returning players, including six starters, to build around.

"It's probably the first time in three years that we've at least had a nucleus to build on," stated Phillips.  "It seems to be gaining chemistry and balance on and off the field.  There's a little more balance than we had in the past."

"We have a proven goal scorer in Jorge De La Fuente and Zach Lloyd (pictured right) is one of the best keepers I've seen around.  Zach has the skill of a Division I player, but is a bit undersized."

De La Fuente, a senior forward, is the Eagles' leading returning scorer with 14 goals.  He was voted last season to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American Honorable Mention Team.

Lloyd, a Springfield College transfer, replaces Donnie Broughton, who has moved to defense.  Joining them in the backline are returning starter Coltin Packingham and Pat Boyer, who played at Springfield College.  Freshman Nick Platipodis from St. Louis will be a welcome addition to the backfield.

Juniors Billy Bucci and Alexander James are    seasoned midfielders.  Tyler Novy (pictured left) is a key newcomer to the midfield.

"If we can start the season off on a positive note and sustain  through the month of September, we should be pretty strong in October with the majority of our games played at home."
