RMC Kickers Take 3rd Place Trophy!!!!!!!!!
After losing a tough 7-6 decision to eventual champion Bluefield College, the RMC Eagles Soccer Team bounced back to take 3rd place in the USCAA National Men's Soccer Championships this past weekend in Terre Haute, IN. by winning its next two contests. The 1st game saw RMC taking a 4-1 lead into the second half on goals by Lupe Gonzalez, John Muckian, and 2 goals by Silvio Mejia. However, the Eagles could not hold the lead in the second half despite another goal by Mejia, and one by Scottie Malagon. RMC's assists in the losing effort came from Scottie Malagon (2), Lupe Gonzalez (2), and John Muckian (1).
RMC managed to bounce back on Fri against the #2 seed NHTI out of Bangor, Me. by a sizeable 6-2 margin. The Eagles were led by Lupe Gonzalez who led the charge with 4 goals (1 unassisted) and 1 assist. Also having an outstanding game was John Muckian who netted 2 goals and 1 assist. Silvio Mejia (2 assists) and Scottie Malagon (1 assist) rounded out the scoring.
In the 3rd Place game the Eagles won a hard fought battle against the #1 seed and the
#2 ranked team in the nation (USCAA) Southern Maine by a 1-0 score. The only goal scored in the game was an unasssisted 25 yard shot by RMC's Aaron Reyes 30 minutes into the game. All Tourney Selection Goalie Miguel Nieto came up with his 5th shutout of the season.
Also earning All Tourney Honors were Lupe Gonzalez and Silvio Mejia. Other RMC Honors include both Scottie Malagon and Aaron Reyes earning USCAA Soccer All-American Status.
Coach Guzman commented after the tournament concluded that "I am proud of the team's come back wins against the tournament's #1 and #2 seeds after a tough loss in game one. The first loss gave the opportunity for our players to see what they have inside them. I think they found out that one loss does not define who you are."

RMC Kickers Prepare for Nationals
Lake County based Robert Morris Men's Soccer completed their regular season with a 3-1 loss at Carthage Saturday evening. Scottie Malagon scored on a pass from Lupe Gonzalez for RMC's only score in the contest. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 7-3-2 record and are busy preparing for their trip to Terre Haute, IN to defend their National Title beginning Nov. 2. Go Eagles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eagles Nip McHenry
Though RMC did not play one of its better games of the season, it managed to grind away at McHenry Community College to gain a 2-1 victory to move their record to 7-2-2 for the season. John Muckian scored both goals for the Eagles with assists by Lorenza Stephens and Lupe Gonzalez. Miguel Nieto was solid in goal again for RMC with 5 saves for the duration of 90 minutes. The Eagles will travel to Carthage this Sat to close out the regular season before preparing for the Nationals in Terre Haute, IN Nov 2-5 at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College to defend their National Title.

Kickers Defeated by North Central College
The Men's Soccer Team suffered a tough loss at North Central College Friday Night 3-1. The Eagles could only manage 1 goal from Scottie Malagon assisted by Lupe Gonzalez. RMC had several opportunities to score but were unable to capitalize. RMC's record fell to 6-2-2 with their next match at McHenry Community College Tues Oct 18.
Eagles Kick Finlandia U.
RMC Kickers ripped Finlandia University 11-0 in Northern Michigan to improve its overall record to 6-1-2 for the 2005 campaign. Scottie Malagon had an unbelievable performance with a double hat trick - 6 Goals! Four of Scottie's goals were on penalty kicks. He also had an assist in the match. Silvio Mejia, who scored 2 goals for RMC, also turned in a solid performance. Other RMC contributors were Carlos Mendez - 1 goal, Ronald Bardeles - 1 goal, Lorenza Stephens - 1 goal, Miguel Miranda and Aaron Reyes - 1 assist apiece. Miguel Nieto completed his 4th shutout of the season. The Eagles take on North Central College away this Friday in hopes of getting closer to a berth in the USCAA National Championships held in November.
RMC Ties Northland Baptist
RMC Men's Soccer tied Northland Baptist at the Serbian Center in Lindenhurst 2-2 in a hard fought battle to close out their 2005 home schedule. The Eagles were led by Scottie Malagon with 2 goals including a penalty kick. Silvio Mejia assisted on the other Malagon goal. Miguel Nieto made 6 saves in playing the entire game. RMC's record is now 5-1-2 for the season with their next match in Northern Michigan at Finlandia University on Sunday.
RMC Defeats Moody Bible
The Eagles Kickers defeated Moody Bible for the second time this year in their home and away series 4-2 to raise their record to 5-1-1 for the season. Lupe Gonzalez scored twice for RMC to lead the Eagles to victory. Scottie Malagon scored a goal for RMC as did John Muckian who also added an assist. Miguel Nieto once again played all 90 minutes making 9 saves included a deflected penalty kick. The Eagles will play their last home game on Tues against Northland Baptist.
Eagles Nip Wisconsin Lutheran
RMC Men's Soccer Team defeated Wisconsin Lutheran in Milwaukee 2-1 to improve its record to 4-1-1. Scottie Malagon led the way with 2 goals one of which was unassisted and the other with an assist from Lupe Gonzalez. Miguel Nieto went the distance in goal with 8 saves. The Eagles will next travel to play Moody Bible.
RMC Loses Tough One in OT
RMC Men's Soccer lost a hard fought decision in overtime 5-4 to Northland Baptist College on Friday. Lupe Gonzalez led the Eagles with 3 goals and 1 assist. Lorenza Stephens scored a goal and also had an assist. Both John Muckian and Jeremy Schwerdlin each had assists for the Eagles. Miguel Nieto played the the entire 93 minutes in goal for RMC. He made 11 saves with 3 from point blank range in the O.T. RMC travels to Wisconsin Lutheran College (Kenosha) on Tues.
Eagles Win Two
RMC Men's Soccer won back to back 1-0 games on the road against Northland College, and at home against Springfield College the very next morning( after arriving back at 4 AM from the Northland trip). Silvio Mejia scored his 4th goal of the season with an assist from Scottie Malagon to give the Eagles their 2nd win of the season. Miguel Nieto made 7 saves while earning another shutout. Silvio Mejia scored his 5th goal of the season off a header from a long ball from defender, Eddie Lopez. Miguel Nieto recorded his 3rd shutout(6 saves) in the last 4 games to see RMC's record improve to 3-0-1. The Eagles will travel to Northland Baptist this Friday.
RMC Ties Morton
RMC Men's Soccer earned a hard fought 1-1 with Morton College on Tues at the Serbian Soccer Complex. Scottie Malagon scored the Eagles lone goal on an assist from John Muckian. Diego Gonzalez of Morton tied the game with 1 minute remaining. The Eagles outshot there opponents 2-1 but could not get the ball into the net. RMC's record is now 1-0-1 and they will travel to Northland College on Friday before returning home on Sat to host Springfield College.
Eagles Win 1st
RMC Men's Soccer team lost to Carthage College 2-0 on Thurs and turned right around Fri nite to defeat Moody Bible 3-0 to improve its record to 1-2. Silvio Mejia, Lupe Gonzalez, and Scottie Malagon scored for RMC. Adding assists were Lupe Gonzalez and Silvio Mejia. Miguel Nieto played outstanding in goal for the Eagles. RMC will next take on Morton College Tues at the Serbian Soccer Complex.
RMC Comeback Falls Short
RMC Men's Soccer team suffered their 1st defeat of the season 3-2 to Elmhurst College. Elmhurst broke out with goals in the 1st half to take a 3-0 lead before the Eagles made a furious run in the 2nd half. Lupe Gonzalez and Scottie Malagon scored goals for the Eagles in the 2nd half to cut the final deficit to 1. The Eagles will next host Carthage College Thursday at the Serbian Soccer Complex.
Defending Champs Begin Practices
RMC Men's Soccer Team from Lake County will begin defense of their USCAA National Championship with practice sessions scheduled at the Serbian Soccer Complex in Lindenhurst starting Mon - Fri Aug 8-12 from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM, and Mon - Weds/Fri Aug 15-19 from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. On Thurs Aug 18 there will be a scrimmage at 5 PM against the College of Lake County.
RMC Announces New Soccer Coach
Rommel Guzman was named Head Men's Soccer at the RMC Lake County Campus for the upcoming fall campaign 2005 replacing Joe Martinez who stepped down from the position in February. Guzman was the Assistant Women's Soccer Coach for the RMC Lake County Campus this past fall of 2004. Previously Guzman headed two extremely successful programs at Waukegan East H.S.(1982-1990) and Glenbrook North H.S.(1992-2004).
