As Coach Jake Truty builds his program, he has sought to assemble a solid coaching staff to maximize every player's abilities. Nowhere is that more evident than in the coach he has added for his goalkeepers, former NCAA All-American Ante Cop.
"Our guys are really going to benefit from Ante's experience," says Coach Truty. "He's played at multiple levels of soccer and coached at them as well. We're lucky to have a coach with his background join our staff."
Coach Cop earned National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honors during his two seasons for the College of DuPage (IL). He then helped lead Coach John Rootes's Southern New Hampshire University squad to 17-2-2 record in 1997. He was named NCAA Division II Goalkeeper of the Year that season as the Penmen claimed a regional title.
Following his college career Coach Cop played in Croatia's Premier League with NK Marsonia Slavonski Brod and NK Zadar. He then joined the Tucson Fireballs in the United Soccer League D3 Pro Division. He was named the USL's Rookie of the Year for his play that season.
Coach Cop currently plays for HNK Zrinski Chicago.
Previously he has coached Dominican University (IL) and Schaumburg High School. His club soccer experience includes stints with Team Elmhurst Soccer Club, the Crystal Lake Soccer Club, the Chicago Fire Juniors, and the Cary Soccer Club.
"I think we'll definitely see Ante's impact on our play in goal this season," says Coach Truty.
Coach Cop lives in Chicago with his wife, Kim. He will also act as head coach for the RMU Junior Varisty team.
