Robert Norris from UW Eau Claire was the medalist with a 1 over par 73. Carthage College won their 2nd trophy inside of a week by firing a 315 total besting 2nd place St. Mary's University (MN) by 5 shots. Ratzburg Paces Eagles at St. Francis!!!
Battling 25 mile per hour winds and a 20 degree temperature drop on the back nine,
Jason Ratzburg (pictured left) managed to card a 3 over par 75 which was good for a 5th place medal in leading RMU Men's Golfers to a tie for 4th place out of 13 teams competing at the University of St. Francis Invitational at Wedgewood G.C. Tuesday in Joliet. The team event was won by Monmouth College with a 308 total followed by Elmhurst College 312, IL Central College 314, and RMU 316 along with Olivet Nazarine 316. Individually, Seth Doran of Olivet fired a one over par 73 to capture medalist honors. Steady Chris Myers shot 77 for the Eagles and was followed by Erik Lindgren 79, Herving Sanchez 85, and Andrew Lundin 89. Coach Placko commented "It was a tough day for scoring with the wind gusting to 30-35 mph on our back nine. It was unfortunate that we got caught in the worst part of the day while the earlier flights (Monouth, IL Central College, Elmhurst, and Olivet) all were off the course when the weather deteriorated. Our guys kept a good mindset for the tough round, especially Jason who managed his game extremely well." The Eagles will next travel to Kenosha C.C. Tues April 24 for the Carthage College Invitational.
Eagles Open the Spring with Solid Play at Millikin!!!
Competing in their first tournament since the fall, the RMU Men's Golfers fought the
cold wet conditions at the Big Blue Classic in Decatur over this past weekend to finish tied for 5th out of 17 teams while shooting 308. The tournament was won by powerful IWU (D-3) posting a 289 team score on the par 71 Scoville layout. NAIA powerhouse Lindenwood placed 2nd with a 298 total followed by the host school Millikin U. and Webster U. both shooting 301. Out of
128 golfers that competed Herving Sanchez (at left) led RMU by carding a 75 good for T-14th. He was closely followed by Chris Myers (at right) with a 76 (T-20th), Andrew Lundin 78 (T-35th), Jason Ratzburg 79 (T-43rd), and Erik Lindgren 82 (T68th). Inclement weather on Saturday shortened the 2 day event to just 1 round. Both Coaches Adam Placko and Al Bruehl agreed that "Our Men survived a rough start on the most difficult holes to grind out a very respectable round. Some miserable weather conditions added to the adversity our guys had to overcome." Next up for the Eagles is the St. Francis Invitational at Wedgewood Golf Course in Joliet Tuesday April 17.
