Ron Eskridge is a well-known name in Chicago basketball circles. During a distinguished tenure as a high school coach in the highly competitive Chicago Public League Red West, Coach E influenced the development of over thirty players who have gone on to professional careers, including such famous names as Kevin Garnett, Ronnie Fields, and Michael Wright. Tony Brown, the assistant coach of the Boston Celtics, is also one of his protégées. He is still active in running the annual Chicagoland City-Suburban All-Star game, one of the oldest prep all-star games in the country. This game has prodcued over seventy NBA players--including fifteen first- and second-round picks--the latest being Luther Head of Manley High School and the University of Illinois.
A former Division I coach and a retired high school assistant principal and disciplarian, Ron has been involved with the RMC Men's Basketball program for nine years. His contacts have been instrumental in the recruiting of many of the team's greatest players. His long experience and wise counsel are great resources for both players and coaches.
He is a 1965 graduate of Bethune-Cookman, following in the footsteps of John Cheney, a fellow native of Philadelphia, PA. His basketball coaching philosophies have been influenced by such names as Dr. Jack Ramsey, Ken Loffener, Woody Hayes, and John McClenndon. During his historic playing career, he was on the court with and against many of the game's greatest players, among them Hal Lear, Tom Gola, Wally Jones, Walt Hazzard, Ray "Chink" Scott, Earl Monroe, and Wilt Chamberlain.
