2008 Season Outlook

Robert Morris-Springfield opened their inaugural baseball season in 2007 posting a 15-22 tally, winning 11 of their final 18 games.  The Eagles finished the season with a strong nucleus of players to build on, and have since added an equally talented signing class for the 2008 season.  RMC-Springfield will return 7-of-8 starters from their first campaign and a good core of pitchers.  The Eagle baseball staff signed an additional three junior college pitchers along with added depth at virtually ever other position as well.

Coach Rabideau believes the pitching staff should be the strength of the 2008 team.  “Bolstered by senior ace Jake Walsh, the now-experienced group of sophomore pitchers, and the incoming hurlers, we should be very strong from the hill this spring,” says Rabideau.  Having added the likes of Justin Standridge, Jason Thomas, and Clark Miller from SCI, the experience on the mound will more than double the staff, which finished the 2007 season.  “Our returning pitchers and incoming freshmen will combine for the depth we sorely needed last season,” said Rabideau.

The Eagles should prosper at virtually every other position in 2008 as well.  Coach Rabideau added, “We have added depth at every position, and in most cases, added players who should come in and push our veterans for starting assignments.  The depth will also aid in game strategy by allowing us to insert pinch hitters, pinch runners, and defensive specialists at key times of games, where last years numbers did not allow for this luxury.”

Robert Morris will open the 2008 season in Memphis, TN against NCAA Division II opponent Christian Brothers University.

All home games will be played at Chamberlain Park in Springfield, IL.
